MOUDGIL - Ranvir, Ph.D.
Of Grand Island, NY passed away May 17, 2022. Ranvir's life force primarily centered on being with his beloved family. He leaves behind the love of his life, wife Natalie Moudgil, daughter Alka Moudgil, grandson Arjuna Velayudam, daughter Seema Washington (nee Moudgil), son-in-law Jason Washington, and nephews Vibhaker and Nishaker Moudgil, Arun and Rajeev Joshi. Ranvir was predeceased by brothers Om Prakash Sharma, Ved Prakash Sharma, Ravi Dat Joshi, and Randhir Kumar Moudgil. He was a favorite uncle of a great many nieces and nephews in Canada, England, and India. Born in Samana, Punjab, India in 1935 to Parsini Devi and Balkiram Joshi, Ranvir was a professor at Kurukshetra University and later served until his retirement as an anthropology and sociology professor at Niagara University. His areas of academic interest spanned a lifetime. He was honored to study under and work with Dr. Peter V. Karpovich of Springfield College in the area of kinesiology, researching isometric muscular contraction in athletes. His doctoral research focused upon Asian refugees fleeing Uganda in 1972 and integrating into Canada. A primary source of fulfilment in his academic life came from his interactions with students. As a member of the Hindu Cultural Society of Western New York, Ranvir served on the initial constitution committee. His community service entailed the sharing of his cardiac experiences with patients at Buffalo General Medical Center with the goal of reducing anxiety about cardiac care. He will be remembered for his deep spirituality, his sense of humor, and his love for photography and videography capturing the family's favorite moments including cultural activities. Private services will be held.
