Carl Laverne Rettig, 88, of Butler died at 11:01 p.m. Friday in The Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.
Born Sept. 22, 1920, in Butler, he was the son of the late Charles Adam and Mary Protzman Rettig.
He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Mr. Rettig was employed as a blacksmith in the forge shop at Butler Armco. He retired in 1980.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 249 in Butler and American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora.
He was a member of the Tri-state Music Association and Tanglewood Senior Center. He enjoyed camping.
He was married to Margaret G. Wagner, who preceded him in death on May 16, 1989.
He is survived by a son, Jeffrey L. Rettig and his wife, Margie, of Butler; two grandchildren, Sarah Lujetic and her husband, Tim, and Adam Rettig; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Lujetic; a brother, Floyd Rettig and his wife, Virginia, of Butler; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
RETTIG - Friends and family of Carl Laverne Rettig, who died Friday, July 24, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the funeral home with the Rev. Ralph Storm officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.
The family suggests donations be made to Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023.
