Gerald Zucker Obituary
Dr. Gerald A. Zucker died May 27 in Delray Beach, Fla., of complications resulting from a massive right brain stroke that he suffered May 19.
He was born June 5, 1924, and was almost 87 years old.
Dr. Zucker was a practicing optometrist in Butler for more than 50 years.
He served his country in World War II as a medic in the U.S. Army stationed in the Philippines. He further served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves and retired as a colonel.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Zucker, and his daughter, Claudia Zucker.
ZUCKER - The funeral service for Dr. Gerald A. Zucker, who died Friday, May 27, 2011, will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 19.

Sylvia and Joy may God be with you in this time of sorrow. You can be proud of Gerald for his friendship, caring, and loving care; he gave to his friends, neighbors, and patients. We will all miss him.

Gerry had a passion for flying, long after he stopped, which we were both able to share. I always insured that I was his last appointment for the day because I knew having him fit me, properly, for a pair of glasses was going to take more time than that to which either of us was accustomed. He taught me a lot about being a professional in everything that I have done overt the years. I have missed him since he retired; his practice continues in the hands of a person with the same commitment. Thanks for both good conversation and excellent, corrected vision (that I learned to trust from the pilot's seat).
