Judith Dearth Obituary

Judith J. Dearth

Age 79, born Jan. 13, 1942 in Canton Ohio to the parents, Roy and Mary Helen Rennie. Graduate of Sandy Valley, class of 1960. She left Ohio at the age of 21, and lived in California until age 31. She attended Glendale Community College for two years. She was the widow of George C. Dearth. They had one child together, Joy Jaleen Dearth. She leaves a son-in-law, Michael Harris; two step daughters, Kathy Fernandez of Florida, and Debbie Chance, also of Florida. She has two sisters, Phyllis Merriman, and beloved brother-in-law, Mike Merriman, of the home place in Magnolia. Another sister, Katy Singleton, of Dover; two nephews, Quentin Singleton, of Dover, and Derrick Clere of East Sparta.

Judy will be remembered for her generous heart. She was a great "people person". Her hobbies were Watercolor paintings, making Greeting cards, and studying Metaphysics....a life long pursuit. She was past president of the Waynesburg Area Business Assoc., former member of the Sandy Valley School Board. Also secretary of the Sandy Valley Chamber of Commerce. She was retired from Dearth Ins. Agency, after serving as President for 16 years after the passing of her husband and founder of same. She was well traveled having been to Tahiti, Hawaii, Alaska, and Europe three times. She made many trips across country. She also leaves a young gentleman whom she was proud to mentor, Jimmy Grossi of Canton.

My deepest sympathy to Joy and family for the loss of a wonderful, caring lady! She loved her fur babies and her family! She was a great supporter of the Carroll County Animal Protection League no-kill animal shelter and believed in us to get our shelter finished to save lives of domestic animal. RIP dear Judy.

To Diane: Sorry, I am not the Joy you are thinking of. My mother never lived in Ohio. She was from West Virginia. And she has been gone for 25 years. My real name is Joyce, but I go by Joy. Judy was, indeed, a very kind person and I know she is with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ now. Thank you for your sweet message to me, even though I am not who you thought I was.

To Joy,
I knew your mother through Eastern Star in Minerva. I hope someone has shared you were named Joy because you brought much joy to your parents. Judy was a strong lady of determination yet kind to all she met. May you find comfort in knowing she is at peace with our Lord.

Condolences to the family. I have great memories of Judy as we shared with same birth date. Also what fun we had in band & I remember her playing that trombone which was almost bigger than she was. Rest In Peace dear Judy.
