Robert Bucklew Obituary

Robert D. Bucklew
age 84, of Okeechobee, died and went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center. Originally from Massillon, Ohio, Mr. Bucklew was the son of Kenneth and Carrie, being born Dec. 13, 1928 in Beach Grove, OH. He grew up in East Greenville, Ohio an attended Washington High School and served in the US Army from 1948-1952 where he attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was stationed in Landshutt, Germany from 1949-1952 and he was awarded the permanent rank of Corporal. Upon returning from service in Germany, he resumed his job at Republic Steel where he began in 1947. He worked at Republic Steel for 40 years before retiring in 1987. While working at Republic Steel he also started his own business in 1972, Bob Bucklew Roofing and Spouting which he owned and operated along with his five sons until 1983. For several years after retiring he would spend the winters in Florida until making Okeechobee his permanent residence in 2003. Bob was a former member of the Massillon Baptist Temple and was at the time of his death a member of the Oakview Baptist Church in Okeechobee. He was an avid golfer for many years and recorded three holes-in-one. He also loved to fish for walleyes in Canada and crappies (Specks) in the Kissimmee River here in Florida.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 48 years, Carolyn and brothers, Jim and Kenneth, Jr. He is survived by five sons, Roger Bucklew (Lori) of Canton, Ohio, Dennis Bucklew (Carol) of Canton, Ohio, Tim Bucklew (Jackie) of Navarre, Ohio, Curtis Bucklew (Lori Jenkins) of Massillon, Ohio and Kevin Bucklew (Dora) of Beach City, Ohio. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; as well as his three sisters, Eileen Raymer (Jim) of Okeechobee, Beatrice 'Sis' Musser of Massillon, Ohio and Jean Mummertz (Leo) of Massillon, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 11 at 11 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, 3741 Fohl St. SW, Canton and will be officiated by Pastor Thomas Shank, Jr. A gathering of family and friends will take place at the church following the service. Burial will take place at a later date. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Raulerson Hospital in Okeechobee, Fla. and Lawnwood Hospital in Ft. Pierce, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bob's name to Fellowship Baptist Church.
