C. Lawrence Wiser

C. Lawrence Wiser, 90, died in his home in Kensington, MD, on Saturday, May 15, 2021. Born in Berwyn Heights, MD, on August 3, 1930, he was the youngest of six children of Floyd and Alice Wiser. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law School. Mr. Wiser served in the Maryland General Assembly in Annapolis for many years, first in the House of Delegates from 1967 to 1975 and again from 1987 to 1991. He was a member of the Maryland State Senate from 1975 to 1979 and a member of the Maryland State Board of Higher Education in 1986 and 1987. Long active in the Montgomery County Democratic Party, Mr. Wiser was Chairman of the Montgomery County campaign for U.S. Senator Joseph Tydings in 1964, and Co-Chair for the Montgomery County campaign for U.S. Senator Paul Sarbanes in his first Senate campaign in 1976. He was also part of an exploratory group when Sargent Shriver considered running for governor of Maryland against fellow Democrat Marvin Mandel in 1970. He maintained a private law practice until 2012, retiring at the age of 81. Mr. Wiser was the beloved husband of the late Mary Ellen Wiser. Surviving him are his children Robert Wiser, Glenn Wiser, Caroline Alderson, Susan Wiser, and Juliet Burch; and grandchildren Alice Alderson, John Wesley Alderson, and Elizabeth Wiser. Graveside Funeral Service and Interment at Parklawn Memorial Park, 12800 Veirs Mill RD, Rockville, MD, on Wednesday, May 26, at 10 a.m. Memorial service at a future date to be determined.
