Donald Howard

1947 - 2022

Donald Duane Howard, 74, of Severna Park, Maryland, passed away on November 6, 2022, after a three-month battle with brain cancer. Don was born on February 19, 1947, to Edith and Kenneth Howard in Fairmont, West Virginia. After graduating from Fairmont Senior High School in 1965, Don went on to study business at Fairmont State College and was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Upon graduation Don was hired by Equitable Trust Bank in the Baltimore/Washington region, kicking off a forty-year career in retail, commercial, and mortgage banking. Don and Madonna met in college and were married in 1969. They have one daughter, Jennifer (Keith) Corbin and two beautiful granddaughters, Peyton and Emma. After retiring in 2010, Don spent his time golfing, reading, traveling with his wife, and generally enjoying life. Hilton Head, South Caroline, was his favorite place to vacation with daily walks to the beach, eating at ocean-side restaurants, and enjoying a cigar and a Manhattan on the deck of their golf course villa. Don was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in Crofton where he often served as usher. It was the church that recruited him to mentor a student at Crofton Elementary, an assignment he thoroughly enjoyed. Over the years he was a member of the Jay-Cees, Annapolis Rotary Club, Chartwell Golf and Country Club, and the Naval Academy Golf course, where he made many lasting friendships. Don was preceded in death by both parents, his sister Lois, and his brother Kenneth. He is survived by his sister Maxine of Bridgeport, West Virginia, and many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1370 Defense Highway, in Crofton, on Friday, November 11, from 4:00 – 6:30, and again on Saturday from 10:00 – 11:00. A celebration of his life will be held from 11:00 – 12:00, followed by a luncheon in the church fellowship hall.
