Robert Reid Bilbrey Sr.

Retired Navy Captain and DoD Senior staff officer, Robert Reid Bilbrey, Sr., 88, died on August 27, 2022, of natural causes with his beloved wife, Dottie, of 67 years at his side. He was born on April 24, 1934, in Jacksonville, FL, to Alvin Reid and Ouida Hawkins Bilbrey. He was raised in Clearwater. While in high school, he lettered for three years in football, basketball, and baseball. He played on a South Florida championship football team, was captain of a championship basketball team, and was in All South Florida basketball for two years. He graduated from University of Florida and was subsequently commissioned as an ensign after graduating from the U.S. Naval Officers Candidate School, Newport, RI, advanced education included the national cryptologic school senior officers' course. He had commands as a LCDR, CDR, and CAPT. During college, he married his college sweetheart, Dorothy Clarke of Jacksonville, FL. They had three wonderful children, Bobby (Marianne), Rick (Laura) and Beth (Bart), all graduates of Maryland colleges, and gifted them with six grandchildren--Christina, Drew, Jim, Thomas, Cara, Brian and grand-stepson Andrew Balduff. His favorite hobbies were golfing, fishing, and supporting the Florida Gators football and basketball teams as a member of the University of Florida Alumni Association. He was also a Redskins season ticket owner in the glory years. During their retirement, Bob and Dottie enjoyed many winters down in Anna Maria Island, FL. He was President of the Crofton Country Club Men's Golf Association, President of the Ocean Pines Golf and Country Club Board of Governors, and recently a member of the Prospect Bay Golf and Country Club. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Eastern Shore Military Officers of America Association, National Rifle Association, and the Conservation Heritage Foundation. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 14 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, with a funeral service beginning at 11:30 AM at First Baptist Church of Crofton, 1690 Crofton Pkwy, Crofton, MD 21114. A private family burial will immediately follow at Crownsville Veteran's Cemetery.
