Ernest Jones Obituary

Ernest Lee "Ernie" Jones Jr., 60, of Westminster, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at the University of Maryland Hospital, from an extended illness.

Born Sept. 1, 1951, in Gettysburg, Pa., he was the son of Ernest "Ernie" Jones Sr., of Westminster and the late Kathleen Stewart Jones. He was the husband of Nancy Bollinger Jones, who he was married to for more than 42 years.

He was a 1969 graduate of Westminster High School. He was vice-president of operations for Oval Track Productions and R.J. Custom Homes along with his brother. He formerly worked as a machinist and supervisor for Black & Decker, and then Master Power.

He raced stock cars, No. 22, at various race tracks since he was 16, and won many titles in various divisions. He, alongside his brother, promoted the Rock Speedway in Cumberland and the Roaring Knob Motor Sports Complex in Markleysburg, Pa. He was an avid golfer, Texas Hold'em player and enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephew.

Surviving, in addition to his father and wife, are a brother and companion Rick Jones and Jennifer Brandt; nieces Crystal, Katie, Jenna and Terra Jones, and Emily Immler; and a nephew, Ricky Lee Jones Jr.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Richard Scott officiating. Interment will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Silver Run.

Nancy, My heart aches for you. My prayer are with you all. Some of the memories I had going on in my mind since this great lose was him say Jones is the name and you know the rest. Green beans at Christmas one year, whip cream another. The one race he won and he had a hard time getting the helmet off his head he was so nervous. He will greatly be missed by many.
