George Douglas Obituary



George L. Douglas, 83, of Westminster, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at University of Maryland Shock Trauma.

Born March 30, 1930, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late George E. and Ethel Belt Douglas. He was the husband of Marie U. Douglas, his wife of 57 years.

He served in the Navy from 1949 to 1950. He graduated in 1957 from Western Maryland College and had taught in Baltimore County Schools. After his retirement, he opened Village Printing with his son. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and spending winters in Venice, Fla., with his wife and many friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, especially watching them play sports.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Lisa Halliwill, and Dean Douglas and wife Trish, all of Westminster; granddaughters Sara Groves, Nichole Sterner, Lauren Douglas and Kristen Douglas; and great-grandchildren Carly and Austin Sterner, and Julianna, Autumn and Chloe Groves.

He was predeceased by a brother, Ray Douglas.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday; and from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service, 11 a.m. Friday at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, with the Rev. Dr. John Campbell and the Rev. Dr. Dave Bailey officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Upperco.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Ranch Hope Inc., P.O. Box 325, Alloway, NJ 08001.

Mr Douglas was my gym instructor at Franklin Sr. High and I do recall him for his skill as an instructor. He will be missed. My sympathy to the Douglas family.
