George MacDonald Obituary

George Talbott MacDonald, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away on January 12, 2023. He was 92. Mr. MacDonald was born in Rising Sun, MD, to Rexford Glen MacDonald and Mary A. Talbott MacDonald. He was the devoted husband of 60 years to Ruth Dahl MacDonald, loving father of Marilyn Wilson (Stephen), Anita Bauer (Richard), Annette Steele, (John), and Ann MacDonald. He was the dear grandfather of Joseph Wilson (Lindsay), Timothy Wilson, Benjamin Bauer, Bailey Steele, Ashly Steele, and Johnny Steele, and great-grandfather of Ivana Wilson, Alexis Wilson, James Wilson, Henry Wilson, Saylor Steele and Charlotte Vasilakis. Mr. MacDonald was predeceased by his siblings Robert MacDonald, Ralph MacDonald, Richard MacDonald, and Mary "Anne" Tharp. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Gloria and Dolores MacDonald, brother-in-law, Theodore Dahl, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. MacDonald graduated from Rising Sun High School in 1947. He spent a year at University of MD, then spent a year back home on the family farm before returning to graduate with a degree in agriculture. Later, he worked in the Dairy Program at the University of Delaware until applying for the Marine Corps. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Sergeant, and received an Honorable Discharge, the National Defense Service Medal, and Marine Corps. Good Conduct Medal. His most unforgettable moment was when, due to receiving high marks in the Marine Corps School, he had the opportunity to apply to any airwing in the world. While in the military, he completed Airman School Class 2 in Jacksonville, FL, and Aviation Electronics Technician School Class A in Memphis, TN. After his service, he returned to the family farm, which he purchased in the 1960's. He worked the farm for 25 years before selling it. His hobbies and special interests involved reading the Bible, gardening, farming, and home improvement, including building decks. Mr. MacDonald is an ordained minister, and was a Church Elder, Deacon, and Charter Member of 1st Christian Church. Mr. MacDonald taught Fifth Grade at Bayview Elementary School in the 1960's. He graduated in 1961 from Milligan College with a major in Religion. He also worked driving a truck for Snyder, Royster Clark, and Balderson's Orchard. He worked full-time until he was 75 and had a stroke. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, from 10 Am until 11 AM, at First Christian Church, 800 Giles Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will begin at 11 AM. Interment will be held at Mountain Christian Church Cemetery. Rev. Bergan Morris will officiate. Along with flowers, contributions may be made to First Christian Church. Online condolences may be made to www.zellmanfuneralhome.com.
