Donald Fetzer Obituary

Donald C. Fetzer November 14, 1929 - February 4, 2009 Donald C. Fetzer, 79, of Newville, died Wednesday Feb. 4, 2009, at home. He was born Nov. 14, 1929, in Milesburg, the son of Aaron J. and Margaret Korman Fetzer. Dr. Fetzer is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Beezer Fetzer. He had served in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1947, and he received his BS in Education, MEd, and Ded all from Penn State University. Dr. Fetzer taught at Bellefonte, and was director of curriculum at West Perry High School, before teaching in the Student Teacher Program at Shippensburg University, where he was instrumental in the formation of their program preparing Supervisors, and Principals. He retired in 1988. He belonged to First United Presbyterian Church of Newville, where he served as Elder, Trustee, and Sunday School teacher, the Newville Lions Club where he served as president and treasurer, Big Spring Lodge 361 F & AM, and was a member of the Nittany Lion Club, PSU Alumni Assoc., and was a life member of PSEA, NEA, and APSCUF. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Margaret "Peg" Hummel, of Shermansdale, Erin Nienstedt, of Glasboro N.J., and Mary Golgowski, of Lebanon; one son, Donald Fetzer, Jr., of Oxford, England; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter E. Fetzer, of Legioner; two sisters, Elizabeth Rupert and Suzanne McMullin, both of Bellefonte. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at 4 p.m. in the First United Presbyterian Church, Newville, with the Rev. Vernon Gauthier, and the Rev. Robert Rhoades officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3211 North Front Street, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110-1342; Celtic Hospice, 220 Wilson St., Suite 100, Carlisle, PA 17013; or First United Presbyterian Church, 111 Big Spring Ave., Newville, PA 17241. The Egger Funeral Home Inc. of Newville is handling the arrangements.
