Shirley Witmer Obituary
December 3, 1927 - November 26, 2023
Bellefonte, Pennsylvania - Shirley N. Witmer, 95, of Bellefonte, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home in Milesburg. Born on December 3, 1927, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Irvin G. and Florence (Bartley) Neff. On May 1, 1947, she married her beloved husband, Claude F. Witmer, who preceded her in death on September 11, 2011, after sharing over 64 years of marriage together.
Shirley was a graduate of State College High School. She worked as an Accounting Clerk for Penn State for 34 years until her retirement in 1987.
She is survived by her children, Larry F. Witmer (Linda) of Chambersburg, Sandy W. Hoy (Dan), and Deb L. Wagner (Ron), both of Bellefonte, nine grandchildren: Jennifer Anderson (Adam), Annisa Meyers (Cory), Becky Leonard (Barry), Nikki Engleman (Paul), Jeremy Hoy (Molly), Amanda Scott (Jason), Jolene Smeltzer (Ryan), Christina Wagner (Brandon Fonich), and Michele Beecher (Kevin), and 19 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Louise McMahon of Lemont, and a brother, James Neff, of Bellefonte.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by four brothers, Harold Neff, Donald Neff, Robert Neff, and Malcolm Neff, and two sisters, Kathryn Spayd and Joan Reish.
Shirley was a member of The Greater Buffalo Run Valley United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. She was an avid fan of Penn State sports, especially football. Additionally, she enjoyed bowling; she bowled in a league for several years. More than anything, she loved her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren could always count on seeing her in the audience or on the sidelines, cheering them on in all of their extracurricular activities.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM, at the funeral home, with Pastor James Jacobs officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Centre County Memorial Park in State College.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home for their loving and compassionate care for Shirley during her time at the facility.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Shirley to The Greater Buffalo Run Valley United Methodist Church at 1667 Buffalo Run Road, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
