William Gibbs Obituary

William Thomas Gibbs, affectionately known as Gabby, was born on February 19, 1945, in Brownsville, Tennessee, to Nell (Gibbs) Hudson. He passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family and community. William was a proud graduate of Carver High School in Brownsville, TN where he laid the foundation for a life marked by hard work and commitment. He spent many years at Mueller Casting Company, where he dedicated himself to his craft until his well-deserved retirement. In 1967, William married the love of his life, Bertha Lee Gibbs. Their union blessed them with two wonderful sons, Maurice Thomas Gibbs and Marc William Gibbs. As a devoted husband and father, William's family was his greatest treasure. He also was a dedicated and faithful member of New Salem Baptist Church, where he found strength and purpose in his faith. William leaves behind his beloved sons, Maurice and Marc, who carry on his spirit and values. He is survived by his siblings: Jimmy (Willetta) Hudson, Thomas Hudson, Mary N. Hudson, Ronnie (Robin) Hudson, Willie (Fatman) Gibbs Jr. and Clarence (Cathy) Hudson. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment with Maurice (Leatrice) Gibbs II, Zachary McClain, Shateveon (Kaleb) Goforth, Keaira Dunlap, Tritavion Houston, Marquise Gibbs, Anthony Matthews, and Kiona Gibbs. Additionally, he took great joy in his role as a great-grandfather to 20 great-grandchildren. William is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Alma (Arthur) Young and Brenda Carter, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bertha Lee Gibbs; his mother, Nell Hudson; his brother, Wilbert Hudson; two sisters, Doris Farrington and Virginia Ferguson; his sister-in-laws, Edna Taylor and Evelyn (George) Strong, and brothers-in-law, Ottis Carter, Hubert Carter, and George Strong. William Thomas Gibbs will be remembered for his unwavering love, kindness, and the indelible mark he left on the lives of those who knew him.
