Blanche Brumley Obituary

Blanche Crawford Cauthen Brumley CHARLESTON - Blanche Crawford Cauthen Brumley, wife of Frank Warner Brumley, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 13,1941. Her family was there while her father served with the Federal Home Loan Bank during WW II. Following the War, the family returned to their native state of Georgia. Blanche grew up in Thomasville and Athens, the home of her maternal grandparents. After graduation from Thomasville High School, Blanche attended the University of Georgia, graduating in 1962 with a BS degree in Elementary Education. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Blanche and Frank were married on December 21, 1962, at the First Presbyterian Church in Athens, Georgia. The Church was designed and built by her great-grandfather, Benjamin A. Crane, in 1855. Following graduation, the Brumleys moved to St. Marys, Georgia, where their three daughters, Jane, Leigh and Kate, were born. In conjunction with her husband's career, the family moved to Amelia Island, Florida, in 1970 and subsequently to Charleston in 1974. Blanche was a wonderful wife, mother and friend. Her life was dedicated to her family and she adored her children, grandchildren and her great-granddaughter. She is survived by her husband, Frank; daughters, Jane Brumley Hamann (John) and Katherine Blanche Brumley Kronzer (Chris) of Charleston, SC, Marie Brumley Foster and Nancy Brumley Robitaille (Dan) of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Davis and Anna Kate Hamann of Charleston, SC, Crawford, Van Noy (Mary Beth) and Brumley Smith of Charleston, SC, Blanche (Ian), Hayes and Lou Kronzer of Charleston, SC, Harrison Hackett and Alex Robitaille of Atlanta, GA, Nicholas, Drayton and Ben Foster of Atlanta, GA; and great-granddaughter, Anna Ellis Smith of Charleston, SC. During her life in Charleston for more than 50 years, Blanche was a member of First Scots Presbyterian Church, where she was an active supporter of the Women of the Church. She also enjoyed serving on the board of the Florence Crittenton Home, and as a member of the Junior League, the Daughters of the American Revolution and Colonial Dames. Blanche was predeceased by her parents Robert L. and Jane Crane Cauthen of Athens, GA; her brother, Robert; sister-in-law, Martha Brumley Ellis; her daughter, Leigh Brumley Smith; and her grandson, Paul Hackett. Funeral services will be held at First Scots Presbyterian Church on Wednesday September 11th, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Florence Crittenton Programs of SC or The Ronald McDonald House, 81 Gadsden St. Charleston, SC 29401.
