Henricus Jacobus de Haas "Harry" PAWLEYS ISLAND - Henricus "Harry" Jacobus de Haas, 74, of Pawleys Island died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, Saturday, March 29th, 2014. Harry was born June 19, 1939, in Tarakan, Indonesia, son of the late Antonius de Haas and Leentje Rietdyk de Haas. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Petronella de Haas; sons Tony de Haas, Mike de Haas; daughters Miranda and Desiree. He also has 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Harry was born in Indonesia and raised in the Netherlands, also earning his mechanical engineering degree. He met his beautiful wife when Harry was 14 and Petra was 13; they were both ice skating on a pond and Harry tied Petra's skate laces, they had been together ever since. Moving to Charlotte, N.C., in 1967, he worked at American Barmag for several years before starting his own company, Partex, Inc. Harry and Petra lived on their sailboat (the "Ta-Chiao") and sailed throughout the Carribean for ten years. They traveled the world and finally settled in Pawleys Island. He loved soccer, reading, cooking, eating and spending time with his family as a Papa and Opa. A Celebration of Harry's life will be held from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Saturday, April 5, 2014, at his home.
