'Woody'
Mr. Woodell, 91, of Charlotte died at his residence on Tuesday, March 8, 2011.Joe was born January 20, 1920, in Olivia, NC, son of the late Charles and Minnie McDuffie Woodell.
Mr. Woodell was a US Army veteran of WWII and had been a member of First Baptist Church in Charlotte since 1953. He was employed with Mecklenburg County as the Deputy Tax Collector prior to his retirement and was a member of the Charles Setzer Masonic Lodge. Following his retirement Joe volunteered his time with Loaves and Fishes. While visiting in France in 1986 Mr. Woodell was asked to rekindle the flame during the ceremony honoring the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Paris. Joe was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who was devoted to his family.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Janine Woodell of Charlotte, NC; daughters, Carol Neugebauer and husband, Butch of Willis, TX, Sissy Bowers and husband, Frank and Kathy Taylor, all of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Christy Webb and husband, Chris, Brittany Bowers, Kim Larsen and husband, David and Kara Duvall and husband, Greg; great-grandchildren, Alex and Morgan Larsen, Ella, Madison and Christopher Webb.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Woodell will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, March 13, 2011, in the Chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service with the Reverend Michael Cummings officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Loaves and Fishes, PO Box 11234, Charlotte, NC 28220 or the charity of the donor's choice.

To The Woodell Familiy,
Please accept our deepest sympathy in the passing of Joe. We are very happy we had the opportunity to meet him, even if it was just once, he made quite an impression on us.
God blessed him with grace and dignity for 91 years. He is now an angel watching over all of you.

To Sissy and her Whole Family:
You know I loved your Dad and will miss seeing him at all of your family gatherings but you are so lucky he was with you for 91 years..He is now in Heaven with Lawrence and they can continue to talk about their family together..I love you all..
