Nancy Hurd Obituary

Nancy Lee Hurd
August 9, 1935 - July 20, 2022
Charlotte, North Carolina - Nancy Lee Hurd (Age 86) went to be with the Lord peacefully on Wednesday July 20th, 2022, in the loving arms of her four living children. Nancy was born outside of Detroit, Michigan on August 9th, 1935. Nancy grew up in Poughkeepsie, NY and was baptized at First Presbyterian Church in Poughkeepsie on April 2nd, 1950. She graduated from Wappinger Falls High school where she was a cheerleader and played field hockey. She later attended Syracuse University and then after a move to Boston, MA, attended Lasell University. Nancy married Paul Hurd and they became the proud parents to five children. She devoted her life to God, family, friends and church involvement. As she navigated life's many obstacles and challenges she never wavered in her faith and dedicated her time to others, including her mother who she cared for in her home for 17 years. Nancy worked at IBM for 17 years, Calvary Church Counseling Center and Joni and Friends. She loved Calvary Church and was a member for over 35 years, was involved in many Bible studies, sang in the choir, served on the Martha Ministry team and became a Griefshare Counselor where she was able to share her life's journey with others, providing comfort and support. Nancy was preceded in death by her son, Bob, siblings Betty and Jim, and mother Edna. She is survived by her remaining children Pam Wigfield (Greg), Cindy Murdock (Greg), Bill Hurd (Robin) and Ken Hurd (Sandra). In addition to her many great grandchildren, Nancy is survived by her nine grandchildren: Rachel Waldron, Ryan Wigfield, Robert Wigfield, Kyle, Laura, Kelly and Meredith Murdock, Grant Hurd, and Ashleigh Hurd. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Issac, and sister-in-law Donna McHale and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to all those who showed kindness and cared for our mom, Nancy. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted by Pastor Jim Cashwell on Saturday, August 6th at 12 p.m., at Calvary Church located at 5801 Pineville-Matthews Rd, Charlotte, NC 28226. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 11am in the Rea Room at Calvary Church. Following the service, there will be a Bagpiper playing Amazing Grace leading everyone over to a brief graveside service At Memorial Gardens Cemetery at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Nancy's name to the Calvary Church Worship Ministry, Martha's Ministry, or Griefshare or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Nancy has always been a great friend. We enjoyed the Calvary choir and GriefShare program. She was always warm, caring, wise, and helpful. I will miss her very much.
