Dr. Ohannes Yervant Balekdjian
'John'
Dr. Balekdjian, 50, of Charlotte, NC, died July 28, 2005 at home. He was born on March 8, 1955 in Beirut, Lebanon, a son of Yervant O. and Katharina B. Balekjian of Bad-Homburg, Germany.
John spent his first 20 years in Lebanon where he experienced a wonderful childhood with his Armenian Family. When the war broke out in Lebanon, John's family moved to Germany, the country of his mother's origin.
During this time in Germany, John obtained a Masters degree in chemistry, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering. He started what became a successful career at Hoechst AG, one of the leading chemical companies worldwide. He spoke seven languages fluently, and was soon sent on missions all around the world. In 1991 his journey brought him to Charlotte, NC.
Because of his unique, open minded and cheerful personality, as well as his brilliant mind, he was loved and respected by almost everyone who crossed his path. Family was his treasure, philosophy his passion; the sea and the sun were his longings.
John will be dearly missed and will always remain in our hearts.
He is survived by his parents; daughter, Sonia A. Balekdjian of Charlotte; brother Heinrich Balekjian and wife Regina of Frankfurt, Germany; and fiance Dr. Sharon A. Wright of Charlotte.
Funeral services will be held at 6 PM Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church, 7000 Park Road, Charlotte, 28210, with the Reverend Father Daniel Karadjian officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends following the service in the Sarkis and Bobby Acopian Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church.

We will miss his warm personality and friendship.

Just three weeks ago, John and Sharon visited us for a fun weekend. It does not seem possible that he has now left us. John was a gentle and kind Soul who loved deeply and asked nothing in return. We will miss his sense of humor, his thirst for spiritual answers and his wonderful company. We do not have to miss his love because love never dies. John's love for his family, friends and his beloved Sharon will live on in our hearts forever.

I have done business with Dr.Balekdjian for years and he was always kind and gentle in his dealings with me. His face would light up when I asked him about his daughter.

It is with deep regret that I must write this and so hard to believe the need. I spoke with Dr. John not more than a week before his passing.

John was open, gracious, a consummate professional and a true gentleman. He will truly be missed. My deepest sympathies go to John's family.

I worked in the travel department at Hoechst and remember John. He was always a pleasure to work with. He had such a wonderful personality. This is so hard to believe. My condolences to his family. He will be missed.

I met John through our mutual activities with the American Fiber Manufacturers Association Technical Committee.

I was and continue to be struck by John's wonderful personality and enthusiasm -- he never met a stranger.

It is hard to believe that someone as vibrant as John is gone. He will be missed. I offer my sincerest condolences to his family.

I have known John since he first arrive in the U.S. I worked in Human Resourcesat Hoechst and helped John with his relocation to the states. Over the years John and I became friends and he would always stop by to say hello and to give me an update on his daughter. John was always very proud of her! He made numerous contributions to both Hoechst and Clariant and will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
