Thelma Stewart Key "Pete" MATTHEWS - Thelma "Pete" Stewart Key, 89, of Matthews, NC passed away October 10, 2012 at home. She was born January 25, 1923 in Mecklenburg County. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Stewart and Addie Simpson Stewart. The family will receive friends Friday, October 12 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Heritage Funeral Home-Weddington Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. at The Heritage Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Timothy Brown of McKee Road Baptist Church. Committal will follow in Forest Lawn East Cemetery, Matthews, NC. She was educated in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools. She was a graduate of Paw Creek High School. She retired from P.C.A. International in March 1985 where she had been a supervisor. She was an active member of McKee Road Baptist Church, Happy Times Senior Club and Senior Melody Makers Choir. She is survived by her four children who include two sons: Tommy Sloan of Rock Hill, SC; Jay Sloan of Monroe, NC and two daughters: Mrs. Gwen Query of Matthews, NC and Mrs. Teresa Helms of Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Cotton" Key in June 1992. She had eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
