David Harrington Obituary

David Edward Harrington, born March 28, 1953 and died May 18, 2011. With a grin that was larger than life, David Harrington relished every moment that he spent on this earth. A devoted friend to many, a loving uncle, and most beloved brother, David's tragic recent death occurred during what would be his last adventure; touring the Civil War battlefields of the Deep South. David attended the Latin School of Chicago, Culver Military Academy (Culver, IN), and the University of Arizona. It was while David was at Culver that he forged the friendships that would become the center of his being. Davey Johnson, Scott Joss, Tom Pabich, John Scieszka, Jay Shirley, Bruce Spelman, Billy Vlasic, and Sam Yingling were David's brothers and fellow BAs. David owned a seat on the Chicago Board of Trade, then traded for ACLI International and later became an independent trader of stocks, bonds, and commodities. Everything in David's life was guided by passion. Incapable of losing a debate, there was never any question about how he felt or what he thought. He loved "da Bulls" and "da Bears" and was determined that he had all of the answers to their woes. An avid reader, David had an encyclopedic knowledge of movies, sports, current political events, the Civil War, World War II, Russian and Italian history, and the American Revolution. He was greatly influenced by John Adams, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Harry Truman. Over the last 25 years David toured many battlefields in North America and Europe. Always first to go off the beaten track, David climbed down a mountainside in the Cinqua Terra, Italy and, lost for a day, he suddnely appeared strolling down the center of Monterrosso. A talented bass guitarist, David played in several bands at Culver and in Chicago, Arizona, California, Texas, and Florida. David is survived by his dear friend, Barbara Thomas; sisters, Mary (Noni) Gardner, Susan P. Harrington Grove; his nieces, Catherine Crews Buell, Carrie Nolah Gardner, Page L. Harrington Grove; his nephew, William Michael Gardner; and was predeceased by his treasured white German Shepherd, Gabe. A funeral service will be held in Chicago on Friday, June 24, at 4 p.m., at St. Chrysostoms Church, 1424 N. Dearborn St. A memorial service will be held in the spring at Culver Military Academy.

Dave was one of my BEST FRIENDS in life . Dave and I ( Ricky Teague ) formed the heart and sole - and the Driving backbone of Both his and my latest band Band. Our band was called HIGHWAY STAR . We were a DEEP PURPLE Tribute band . We were REALLY a GREAT Band !!! When people heard us play ,, they thought that they were hearing the authentic deep purple in concert ! I also played in a Rockin' Blues based band with David called ( ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES ) That band was as good as the Highway star band ,, just different kind music ,, But ,, Regardless the kind of music that we were playing together at that time ,,,, Dave Harrington was the ABSOLUTE B E S T Bass guitar player that I have ever had the fortune to play beside !!! I will miss Him VERY MUCH ,, Always and Forever !!!! I know he is up there in heaven jammin with gary moore and many other great musicians tonight .
( If they can keep up with him -- that is !! Haha ) Love Ya Dave !!!! Your Friend ,, Rick Teague .

Every day I think of you and the guidance you bestowed. Engrained in my memory is your smile that reassured me everything would be okay. Shorts, flip-flops, t-shirts, sun and golf – this was Florida. Love of thought, conversation, debate and knowledge – this was camaraderie. An arm around my shoulder and standing by my side when things went bad – this was friendship. Morning sunrise, evening sunsets, insightful instruction, selfless sharing and clear-headed decisions – this was trading. I will forever keep the treasures you entrusted me – dear to my heart.
