HELENE H. HARVEY

Helene H. Harvey, nee Szpara; beloved wife of 60 years to Ronald G. Harvey; loving mother of Ronald E. (Renee) Harvey; devoted and proud grandmother of Ronald T., Michael J. and Christopher J. Harvey; fond sister of the late: Stanley, Edward, Jean, Emily and Irene; dear sister-in-law of Olga (Edward) Szpara and Beverly (Mac) Bell; kind aunt of Christine (Doug) Hochstetler, Nancy (Scott) Greeley, Edward (Holly) Szpara, Susan Szpara and the late Leonard Pal. Helen was a dedicated teacher for 25 years in the Spry, Holden, Byrne and Kinzie Schools of Chicago. She was highly regarded by her students, and in later years when she happened to meet former students they often expressed gratitude for the influence she had on their lives. After her retirement, Helene and Ronald lived in Palos Heights and Orland Park. She enjoyed playing bridge and canasta with her friends in her free time. She also traveled internationally with her husband, and they lived for a year in London, England during his sabbatical at Imperial College of Science and Technology. Her husband Ronald is a Professor emeritus in the Ben May Dept. for Cancer Research, University of Chicago. Dr. Harvey is the author of three books and more than 450 publications in scientific journals. He was the recipient of the Ochsner Award from the American College of Chest Physicians in 2006 for his research on causation of cancer by carcinogens in tobacco smoke and other environmental sources.
