John Rex Atwood

John Rex Atwood, age 77, passed away September 6, 2002. John was born October 26, 1924 in Detroit, MI. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. John had lived in Mundelein for 40 years until 1998, then he moved to Hainesville, IL. He was a member of St. Gilbert Catholic Church and retired Comptroller from Vogue Tire & Rubber Company, in Mt. Prospect in 1997. John was also a member of the United States Power Squadron, Knights of Columbus, and the Leisure Club of St. Gilbert Parish. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie ''Marge'', nee Fenstermaker, Atwood, whom he married December 31, 1944 in Rochester, IN; his daughter, Sharon (Jeffrey) Siirola; grandson, John Siirola, granddaughter, Jennifer Siirola; sister, Gail (the late Walter) Goodman, brother, Kenneth (Geraldine) Atwood. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at St. Gilbert Catholic Church, 301 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL, in the small Chapel. Rev. Father Robert Beaven will be the celebrant. Friends of the family may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Gilbert Parish and/or Waukegan Power Squadron Education Fund, c/o Keith Baldwin, 818 E.
