So saddened by the news, of late, that Ted is gone. Got the class newsletter today from Marylin Smith Kieffaber. Ted and I met on the football field during double days, August 1965. He was out for quarterback and I was trying out for defensive end. He was one of the toughest players on the field. As the school year got underway, I formed a band called the January Ward Tribunal (JWT's). Ted was our first lead singer. He reminded me so much of Jim Morrison of the Doors. He had longer hair than the rest of us. He wore dark (black or blue) t-shirts, tight Levi pants, sandals and a rope for a belt around his waist. He worked with me to set up the first co-ed dance on campus. He also helped me to set up the Mac Shack Coffee House near the campus where students could meet to give poetry readings, perform acoustic musical events, and discuss/debate politics. He had a quick wit and a smile that would light up any room. It was a time when revolution was in the air. Ted and I started an underground newspaper called "Common Sense". We printed it off on an old mimeograph machine and handed it out during Convocation. It was a radical approach to the daily routine. Ted and Rick Racine eventually moved off campus to a great apartment above Main Street downtown McPherson. We'd often gather there to talk politics and debate issues of the day. I decided to make a documentary on Mac, our newspaper "Common Sense", and a satirical look at life at McPherson College. You can imagine our surprise when we were allowed to show it to the whole student body on campus. The times were a changin'. Last time I saw Ted was in San Diego, California about a year after we graduated. My wife, Christina, was working for a bank. I was working as an underwriter in business insurance. We hugged, laughed, debated politics, and reminisced about the good ol' days. I always hoped we'd get together one more time. He is truly missed.

Just four years late but we spent some special times together in the 70s ! Impossible to think of Ted w/o a smile . Never take a friendship for granted .

Ted and Susan were part of my Chicago "family". I met them in the first months of moving there and enjoyed all types of fun and serious events as well. I thought about the time when I got an evening call from them to ask me to babysit for their two children while they rushed the baby to the ER. He gave me that serious look of his and then laughed and said I would be the most expensive babysitter ever. His memory will remain and I will miss him . A multifaceted person who wasn't afraid to argue and sometimes change his mind!

Susan, I was shocked to just now learn of Ted's passing in the KU Law newsletter. You and Ted were such good friends to Bev and I in Lawrence. He was my best friend in law school. I always marveled at his intellect but was even more impressed by how irreverent and funny he was. We had some great times together. My only regret was not seeing him over these way too long years. My loss. Take care.

Dear Susan and family - I am so sorry for your loss. We haven't connected in so many years, but I still treasure the memory of my visits with you when Ted attended law school in Lawrence. They broke the mold, that's for sure.

Dear Livingston Family - We are so saddened to hear of Ted's passing. Since we re-connected with Debbie we were aware of Ted's illness and often thought about him. We were recently reminiscing about skiing and the lake house. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. May the memories you all have of Ted comfort you during this time. Ted was an awesome man!

Ted was my "boss" for many years but he only ever treated me as a colleague and a friend. He cared so incredibly much about the well-being of those of us who worked with him. I'll miss him. My deepest condolences to the Livingston family.

I was extremely saddened and dismayed when I learned of Ted's passing. I worked with Ted as an associate at Mayer Brown from 1982 through 1987. I occasionally ran into Ted and talked to him after I left. He undoubtedly was a brilliant and masterful lawyer. That is not what I admired most about Ted, however. I was more impressed with his modesty, passion and zest for life. We talked most about his children and how proud he was of them and his athletic pursuits. First, it was his running and then his mountain biking after his hips failed him. He had a wonderful sense of humor as well. Ted will not only be missed as lawyer, but also will be missed because of the example he set for me in perhaps the more important aspects of life, how to be a kind and caring man. Forever remembered, forever missed

I enjoyed working with Ted years ago when the FCC sent various Triennial Review regulatory issues to the states (until overturned by the Court). He had a welcome calming effect on our hectic nation-wide team effort. I am very sorry he is gone, but I am very glad I got to know him. Jeff Thomas, AT&T.

What I didn't get to tell him:

Intelligent, hardworking and compassionate are just a few words that describe you
You were a great leader who was highly respected and looked up to

Your self-assurance, brilliance and strength were much to be admired
With every challenge you took on, you greatly inspired

You epitomized what it means to be reliable
Always there to listen, solve the problem, know the answer - that is undeniable

You tackled cancer like you did every case
You made the most valiant effort to prevail while wearing a brave face

We will never forget the difference you made in all of our lives
The impact of a well-lived life always survives

Ted was a Mayer Brown lawyer through and through and epitomized the best of what being a partner at the firm should mean. Although I did not have a chance to work closely with him, I always admired him from afar.

Ted was a great guy and a dear friend. We joined Mayer Brown the same month in 1973. We played on the lawyer's league basketball team and had great fun together, winning the championship in 1975. Ted was an aggressive competitor, a high scoring guard shooting from downtown with amazing accuracy and a team leader. We had many fun times together both at Mayer Brown and at the local pubs following basketball games. A life very well lived. To a friend who lived life to the fullest.
