Susan (Susie/Sushi) Marie Barr, 64, Marion, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022, in Marion. She was born in Kokomo, Indiana, on Thursday, April 17, 1958, to Alvin and Mary (Coffey) Combs.
Susie attended Taylor High School. However, she earned Honorary Degrees in grit, determination, common sense, humor, and a PhD in love.
You may not have been blessed to know her, but if you spent time in Grant County, there is a great chance that she made your life just a little bit better. Susie mastered the art of serving Miller Lite at the perfect temp and adding just the right amount of salt to her Margarita as THE bartender at Good Time Charlies, Kuch's Cove, and the Marion VFW.
When she smiled, things just felt right. Her biggest grins came when she was dancing to Motown, holding both bowers in euchre, catching someone not calling UNO, shooting pool, watching birds feed in her backyard, puzzle games, and just being with the ones she loved!
Though they may not have been her last words, here are two of her quotes that embody the person she was:
"Never cheat at cards!"
"How you tip a server says more about you than it does about their service!"
To many, she was the life of the party. To her family, she was just Mom, and we will miss her dearly!
Survivors include her husband, David Barr of Marion; son, Jason (Lindsay Fricks) Hiland of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Angela (Christian) Vandegrift of Wabash; sons, Ian (Stacey) Barr of Wabash, Zachary (Jaimee) Barr of West Lafayette, Gabriel Barr of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Jacob Vandegrift, Madeline Vandegrift; dog, Murphy; cat, Ed; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Mary Lou Combs; brother, Steven Combs; and sister, Dianne Overhaulser.
There is only one way to celebrate a woman like Susie and she wasn't one for seeing her friends and family moping around in tears. Per her wishes, the family will receive visitors from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Needham- Story-Wampner North Chapel 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN 46952.
