Joyce OSBORNE Obituary

OSBORNE

Joyce Helen, age 85, born August 5, 1929 to the late, E.W. and Martha Greer in Pike County, Kentucky, passed away at Glendale Place Nursing & Rehab Center in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 10, 2015. Mrs. Osborne and her husband, Orville Osborne, founded the Osborne Trucking Company and H&O Distribution, Inc. and she served as its Chief Executive Officer from 1989 until the early 2000's. Joyce was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. Starting their life together, Joyce worked as a school teacher in Pikeville, and her husband a coal miner. After Orville escaped an accident in the mines, Orville and Joyce sought to leave the mines of eastern Kentucky and moved to Cincinnati in order to start a new life for them and their young daughter, Jenny. After saving up everything they could, they took out a $600 loan to start Osborne Trucking on March 3, 1959. While pursuing their American dream, they both worked multiple jobs, and Joyce continued to work at Proctor & Gamble during the days and took care of the trucking company's billing and accounting in the evenings. While risking everything, they together succeeded in establishing and growing a successful company that would not only endure the test of time, but become a pillar of the community over the years in Reading, Blue Ash and Fairfield. Mrs. O. (as she was affectionately called around the office) was an intelligent and savvy businesswoman who took great pride in her business and had a true fondness for her employees and their families. Today, her son, Brad Osborne serves as President & CEO, and three of her grandchildren work for the company: Mike Seta, Brant Osborne and Whitney Osborne. While her hard fought battle with Alzheimer's has come to an end, her spirit and legacy will continue to live on in everyone who knew her. The generosity and love that she showered her family and friends with will never be forgotten. Joyce made an indelible mark on those around her, and she resoundingly left this world a better place because of her efforts. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Orville Osborne, as well as her two parents, four brothers and three sisters. Joyce is survived by her two loving children, Jennifer (Joseph) Seta and Bradford (Wendy) Osborne. Gramoo will be forever missed by her grandchildren, Christopher Seta, Michael Seta, Lisa (Grant) Saunders, Brant (Amanda) Osborne and Whitney Osborne; and by her great-grandchildren, Austin Seta, Isabella Saunders and Nicholas Saunders. She is also remembered by her siblings, Tom Greer, Mae Fleming, Jeanette Aboud and Brenda Hisle. In keeping with Joyce's caring and generous spirit, the family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 8645 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242; the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org; or Hospice of Southwest Ohio at http://www.hswo.org/help-support-our-foundation/. "Don't let it be forgot, that once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment that was known as Camelot." -Camelot, 1960 Visitation will be held at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Kenwood on Thursday, July 16th, from 5pm until 8pm. Funeral services will be held at the church on Friday, July 17th, at 10am with the burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Montgomery. Guestbook online at www.strawserfuneralhome.com

Mrs. O will always be remembered by our family as the gracious and generous Gramoo. She was so inviting and never knew a stranger. She also never forgot her humble beginnings in Kentucky and we admired her and Orville's hard work and commitment to make a better life for their family. To the Seta and Osborne family our sincerest sympathy in the loss of a great lady.
