Philip Johnson Obituary

JOHNSON, PHILIP F. Philip F. Johnson, 82, died March 8, 2005, of heart failure. He has lived in the Portland area for the last 23 years. He enjoyed his hobbies and was active in area photography, geology, and mining organizations. The "Rock Man" also volunteered with schools, professional and civic groups. He served for three years in the U.S. Army during WWII, including 11 months of combat duty in Europe. Earning a BSME degree from Michigan Technological University in 1949, he worked as a mechanical engineer for various Michigan firms, retiring to the Portland area in 1981. Mr. Johnson is survived by three children: Karen (Gene) Wisniewski of Wendell, Idaho; Jim Johnson of Atlantic Mine, Michigan; and Dan (Diana) Johnson of Spring Creek, Nevada and one niece Robyn Johnson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 11560 SE Market St., Portland. Visitation will be Friday, March 18, 2005, at the Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham from 3:00 to 7:00 PM and for one hour prior to the Saturday funeral. Interment in Midland City Cemetery, Midland, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Providence St. Vincent Heart and Vascular Institute.
