George Malesky, beloved father, brother, uncle, friend and avid outdoor adventurer, passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was 67 years old.
George was born July 13, 1956, in Wilkes-Barre, to Anthony and Bertha Malesky. He grew up in Plymouth and graduated from Wyoming Valley West High School, Class of 1974. George continued his academic studies at Luzerne Community College, majoring in construction management.
Throughout his career, George was a highly skilled mason and craftsman dedicated to his work. He later became a proud union member of Local 1 Laborers. He worked on gas line projects in New York State for several years until respiratory and vascular complications forced his retirement.
A true outdoorsman, George had a spirit of adventure. Growing up by the Susquehanna River, he often went fishing, Tarzan swinging or ice skating. He once embarked on a weeklong canoe trip down the river that ended in Plymouth. During the winters, he enjoyed deer hunting with son and friend, Steve Moss and ice skating with his sister, Dorothy. They especially loved skating at the Lyndwood baseball field by St. Casimir's, where locals would flood the field and gather around bonfires, enjoying hot cocoa.
George was an avid golfer, enjoying both the game and the camaraderie on the course. He had a passion for music and taught himself to play the acoustic guitar. He often jammed with his nephew, Jesse Clime. In his youth, George was passionate about live music and even worked as a roadie for the band, The Buoys.
Central to his life was the deep bond he shared with his son, George "Georgie" Malesky Jr. A devoted father, he was Georgie's biggest supporter at his basketball, football and baseball games. Together, they cherished outdoor adventures from fishing and swimming in local lakes to family visits out of state and excursions to New York City and other cities.
George is survived by his siblings, Catherine Belcher and husband, Thomas, New Freedom; Anthony Malesky; Joanie Malesky and partner, Robert Kosloski, both from Plymouth; and Dorothy Malesky Lebonitte and husband, Thomas, Moorestown, N.J.
He was predeceased by his nephew, Tommy Belcher Jr.; and his parents, Bertha and Anthony Malesky.
He leaves behind nieces, Aly Sperock and Kimmy Belcher; nephews, Brian Belcher and Jesse Clime; and previous brother-in-law, John Clime.
George was a member of the former St. Casimir's Church in Lyndwood, where he once served as an altar boy.
George's kind heart, quick wit, vibrant energy and infectious laughter touched many, leaving them roaring with laughter. His spirit lives on in the stories shared and the hearts he touched.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staff of Geisinger Hospital, especially the PCU and ICU teams, for the care and attention they provided.
In memory of George, and in lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests that those wishing to express their condolences consider assisting with George's funeral costs. We are profoundly grateful for the overwhelming support during this somber time. Donations can be forwarded to his son, George Malesky Jr., at 76 Lockhart St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702. Every contribution, regardless of its size, will help honor and remember George in the most dignified manner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in All Saints Parish, 66 Willow St., Plymouth.
