Glenn Howell Obituary

Glenn M. Howell of Dallas passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, at the age of 88. Glenn was a devoted father, loving husband, and proud grandfather. He was known affectionately by his many grandchildren as "Pa."

Glenn was born in Centermoreland, and was the son of the late Fred and Pearl Montross Howell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia M. Howell (formerly Piazza), and his siblings Hazel Jacques, Blanche Love and Frank Howell.

Surviving are his wife, the former Janet Phillips, Dallas; sons, Roger G. Howell and wife, Claire Abbott, Dallas; Dr. Mark D. Howell and wife, Rosali Collier Suttons Bay, Mich.; grandchildren, Melissa Howell, Julie Howell, Rebecca Ziemak and husband, Michael; Corrie Howell, Rosalie Howell, and Everett Howell, as well as his numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his stepdaughters, Jane Herman and husband, Richard; Julie Yadao and husband, Joseph; Joy Sholtis and husband, Donald; and step-grandchildren, Alexis Vaskas, Hailey Sholtis, Richard Herman, David Herman, Riley Jane Herman, Anthony Yadao, Kai Yadao and Sean Yadao.

Glenn graduated president of his class from Dallas Twp. High School in June 1948. He attended Wilkes University and the Wharton School.

He joined the United States Army on March 19, 1951. He was assigned to the 101st Airborne Infantry, D Company 502 and served as a courier while stationed in Japan. Glenn was proud to serve his country.

He was a well-known banker in the Wyoming Valley and worked as an officer for what is now known as PNC Bank for 44 years. He was also a steward of the Bank Mountain community, serving as secretary treasurer and supervisor of Dallas Twp. for 51 consecutive years. He spent many of these years working closely with his dearest friend and fellow Supervisor Phillip Walter.

Glenn was a dependable family man who valued hard work at the office and in his yard. He loved Ford cars and trucks and telling stories about growing up on a farm. He also loved his skateboard riding English bulldog, Irie. Always reliable, he served on various community boards and committees throughout his life. He was a member of George M. Dallas Lodge 531, F&AM, and a life member of Irem Shrine.

He will be sadly missed by his entire family and the Back Mountain community.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown. Private interment in Marsh Cemetery will follow. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Baptist Church, 820 Hunter Highway, Tunkhannock, PA 18657, or donor's choice.

Your Father handled our first mortgage when we came to Wilkes-Barre. He was very helpful in orientating us to the Valley and was very concerned that we got off on the right foot. I thank him for his service to my family. One great person. Rest in Peace
