John Deets Obituary

John R. "Jack" Deets Jr. was born March 22, 1927, in Nanticoke. He attended school there and in Kingston, and later moved with his family to Forty Fort, where he graduated from Forty Fort High School in 1944. He was a member of the varsity wrestling team.

Upon graduation, Jack joined his brother, Fred, in the U.S. Navy. He received basic training in Sampson, N.Y., and was assigned to the cruiser USS Macon during World War II.

After military service, Jack graduated with a degree in accounting from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and was employed by the accounting department at the Tobyhanna Army Depot, from where he retired in 1989.

Family was important to Jack. He devoted himself first to taking care of his parents, and then his brother, Fred. He generously provided funds for the college educations for several of his nephews and supported many charities.

He was a member of Forty Fort Presbyterian Church from 1941 to the present.

He loved a good card game, watching sports and discussing politics and religion! He was a good neighbor, and would routinely do yard work for them.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Amelia David and John R. Deets Sr., and his brothers, Frederick, Richard and Robert.

He is survived by his sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews and their children. His gentle spirit will be missed by those who knew him, and especially by his devoted niece, Carol.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
