Michael Budjnoski Obituary

Michael "Mike" Budjnoski, of Harveys Lake, passed away unexpectedly at home Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023.

Born Feb. 23, 1948, he was the son of the late John C. and Rosalie Budjnoski. He was a graduate of Hanover High School and King's College, where he earned degrees in mechanical engineering and English literature.

In 1973, Mike founded Rayco Eurospec Motorcars, which he owned and closely managed together with his devoted wife, Martina, for the rest of his life. He was a perfectionist, and his discerning taste coupled with a commitment to honest dealing earned Rayco a reputation for excellence in the region.

Mike was a lifelong competitive athlete. An avid cyclist, he found great joy in the camaraderie of the peloton. Together with friends, he tested his limits at events here locally and throughout the U.S. and beyond. He was a frequent team competitor at the Wilkes-Barre (Harveys Lake) triathlon, an attendee to cycling camps in Spain and Italy and in 2003 he won the Pennsylvania State Championship, U.S. Federation Masters 55+ Road Race.

Mike was also an accomplished freestyle skier, and he spent countless fulfilling hours on the slopes, again with his treasured friends. From Elk to Hunter to Killington, Snowbird to Whistler, Chamonix to the Swiss Alps, Mike was an athlete and an adventurer.

At his longtime home on Harveys Lake, Mike loved to sit on his porch and watch the world go by or to pilot his carefully restored antique ski boat around the lake. He was a friend to many in the lake community and he will be dearly missed.

Left to cherish his memory, in addition to his wife, Martina; is his sister, Barbara Miner (Tom), Norfolk, Va.; several nieces and nephews; and in-laws.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to the local chapter of the ASPCA or the Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Breinigsville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Saturday in Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. John S. Terry, pastor, will be celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Bear Creek. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to service time.

Arrangements are entrusted to Charles V. Sherbin Funeral Home, Hanover Twp.
