Services will be held Monday, September 8, 2008, at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street for Joseph Warren Bagley. Visitation starts at 1 p.m. with the service at 2 p.m. From 3 to 5 p.m., a celebration of his life will be held at Bravo Restaurant in Highland Village.
Bagley, 78, died Friday, August 22, 2008, at his northeast Jackson home.
He was born October 5, 1929, in Clarksdale to Ada Rainer and Joe Anderson Bagley. More than 50 years ago, Bagley became a licensed cosmetologist in the state of Mississippi making a significant impact on his profession. He started his career in Jackson at Kennington's Department Store on Capitol Street. This was followed with the opening of his first shop, Joseph's Beauty Unlimited. His influence in the state was further realized when he and the late Earle T. Thomas, Jr. opened Earle and Joseph Salon in 1972. From that point on, the hair business in Jackson was forever changed, becoming an upscale and creative trade. The exclusive salon not only earned the reputation of being the top one in the state, but enjoyed a regional reputation. Many area hairdressers were at one point associated with it and furthered their craft under the talented and watchful eye of Bagley. Thomas died in 2002 and in 2006, Bagley closed the salon after being one of the oldest tenants of Highland Village. Bagley was associated briefly at Cabella's before joining his long time friend, Joanie Thompson, at her salon, Joanie's in Canton Mart Square. Bagley was a very generous man who devoted his life to his talent, had fun along the way and was loved by many.
Survivors include: special friends, Billy Kinstley, Michael and Betty Strait, Billy Ray Sigh, Jim Cronia, Keith Robbins and Mary Ann White. He is also survived by all his many current and former clients who he made sure had a beautiful hairstyle just right for them and friends too numerous to mention.
Memorials should be made to C.A.R.A.; 960 N. Flag Chapel Road; Jackson, MS. 601-922-7575.
