Phillip Hynum Obituary

Phillip Randolph (Randy) Hynum

Port Gibson, MS

Mr. Phillip Randolph (Randy) Hynum went to meet his heavenly father on April 18, 2016, at the age of 73. Randy is survived by his wife, Meredith Birch Hynum; mother, Ada Fife Hynum Dixon both of Port Gibson; daughters, Christy Outlaw (Lynn) of Madison, Margaret McCaskiII (Kevin) of Brandon; grandchildren, Corey Outlaw of Memphis, Caitlyn Outlaw of Madison, Reagan Barnes of Starkville and Maria Grace McCaskill of Brandon; brothers, Reverend Gage Hynum (Janet) of Lexington, Jim Hynum (Nancy) of Port Gibson; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Randy was preceded in death by his father, Julius Winfred Hynum; and his brother, Marvin Winfred (Skeeter) Hynum. Randy was born on December 11, 1942 in rural Claiborne County, Mississippi. Randy graduated from Delta State University with a Bachelors of Science and Physical Education Degree. Randy started his career encouraging children to pursue their goals in academics and sports as a teacher and coach. Randy later ran the family farm but found time to mentor young people and be a supportive role model and father figure to many. Randy ended his professional career after 30 years of service with Farm Bureau Insurance as Agency Manager in Claiborne and Jefferson counties. Randy was a deacon and long time member of Beech Grove Baptist Church. He never met a stranger and went out of his way to help others in the community. Randy will be remembered as a diehard Mississippi State supporter and an avid deer and turkey hunter. He loved the outdoor almost as much as he enjoyed spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren. Randy was a devoted husband to his wife Meredith if 50 years. A loving father to his daughters and a friend to his two son-in-laws. He was a fun loving granddaddy that instilled his love of the outdoors in each of his four grandchildren. Randy meant so much too so many people. The service will be Thursday April 21, 2016 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Port Gibson. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday April 20, 2016 from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm at the funeral home in Port Gibson. Rev. Michael Herrin will be officiating the service with the assistance of Michael Jabour, under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Charles Hynum, Sid Hynum, Corey Outlaw, Nick Hynum, Jeff Hynum and Chris Fife. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Beech Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 73, Port Gibson, MS 39150, or Blaire E. Baston Hospital for Children, 2500 N. State St., Jackson, MS 39216, would be greatly appreciated.
