I have just found this obituary - another proof to me that when you feel called to reach out to someone, do not delay, because it may be too late. I moved to Memphis a year ago and heard that Rebecca was living in Clarksdale. I tried calling her once, but never tried again. She made writing classes fun, and was a glorious inspiration to her students - one of whom was me. I 'googled' her name and found her obituary. A sad time, but glorious in that she now is fully healed, inside and out.

I worked with Rebecca briefly and remember her as a compassionate and caring person, and also as an amazingly talented writer.

Rebecca was a complex soul; that's what made her an amazing teacher. She lived a tough life fearlessly and never failed to share her wondrous gifts and precious time. I honor her as a teacher who demanded more of herself than her students. I pray today she's sitting cross-legged with Jesus, laughing in child-like wonder and cooled by the fluttering wings of angels. I love you Rebecca!

Rebecca was an amazing lady. As a writer, I admired her work and sought her advice. She will be missed so much.
