ROBERT LEE WALKER

1929 - 2016

age 87, beloved husband of Norma; loving father of Diane Eierdam (Steve) both of Cleveland; cherished brother of Mary Frances Furlow of Cuyahoga Falls and Lucille Clark of Massillon and a large loving family of cousins, nephews and nieces passed away on December 10, 2016. Robert was born on August 31, 1929 in Massillon, Ohio. Following the death of his birth parents during his infancy, the only parents he ever knew were his older sister Lessie, and later, her husband William Myricks. Robert graduated from Massillon High School in 1947 where he developed a lifelong passion for the Massillon Tigers, coach Paul Brown, and the game of football. After graduating from Kent State University in 1952, he married Norma, and then returned to Kent State and earned his Masters degree in business education. Soon after, he and Norma welcomed Diane, their only child. Robert devoted his 35-year teaching career to the Cleveland Municipal School District, beginning in 1952 at Thomas A. Edison High School. In 1965, he became a charter teacher at John F. Kennedy High School where he taught business classes until his retirement in 1987. Robert's brothers, twin Johnny Walker, Lemmon Walker Jr. and James Myricks; sister/foster mother Lessie and her husband, Robert's foster father William Myricks, all of Massillon, preceded him in death. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4069 Eastwood Lane, Warrensville Heights, Ohio. Wake: 10:30 AM – Memorial Service 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Robert's memory are made to Massillon High School Alumni Association, One Paul Brown Drive SE, Massillon, OH 44646.
