Benny Carter Obituary

Retired Master Sgt. Benny Louis Carter Sr., 66, of Allenhurst, Georgia, was born on August 6, 1956. He transitioned to glory Sunday, May 7, 2023, while at home surrounded by his loving wife and daughter.
Benny was raised in Valdosta, Ga. He is the son of the late Joe T. and Della Mae Carter and has one brother and two sisters, who preceded him in death, Joe, Mary Helen and Gloria Gene Carter.
He is survived by a brother, Tommy Carter; and sister, Rosette Banks of Atlanta, Ga.
Known for his positive spirit and leadership, Benny enlisted in the United States Army shortly after high school, where he served an honorable 26 years of service until his retirement in 2001 at Ft. Stewart, Ga.
Following his retirement, Benny's next venture was serving at Smith State Prison, Glennville, Ga., and later transferred to the Wayne State Prison in Jesup, Georgia, retiring after serving 16 years as a notable corrections officer.
He loved spending time with his family and loved ones.
College football was his favorite sport, as he was always cheering on the Florida State Seminoles.
A humble man with a big heart, you'd often find him lending a helping hand and doing community service.
A man of God with great passion to serve, he was a deacon and usher at Baconton Missionary Baptist Church.
Benny is forever cherished and survived by his wife, Sarah Carter of Allenhurst, Ga.; and daughter, Kimyatta Carter of Charlotte, N.C.;
A son, Benny L. Carter Jr., preceded him in death.
Benny is the Papa of three grandchildren, Kori Carter, Jacey Carter, Benny Carter III; and their loving mother, Belicia Anderson Carter of Atlanta, Ga. He is also survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, who he cherished in high regard, Luke and Frances Johnson of Valdosta, Ga.
In addition, there are a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and close family friends who will miss him dearly.
He truly left an impact on anyone that crossed his path. He never met a stranger.
A public viewing will take place on Thursday, May 11, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Dorchester Funeral Home, Midway, Ga.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 12, at 2 p.m. at Baconton Missionary Baptist Church Pavilion with Dr. Hermon Scott, Th.D., pastor, officiating.

Mr. Carter was an inspiration to me for the few years I knew him. I was thinking of him today and thought how proud he would be of me. So I decided to try to find him to say hello, but I was saddened to find that I won´t be able to tell him everything I have accomplished. He always had a smile and always cared for people. Wish I could tell him hello once more. I know you´re smiling big in heaven right now. Sending my condolences to the family.
