Mary Beth Whitfield

1944 - 2024

Mary Beth Whitfield, 79, of Camden, S.C., passed away on July 18, 2024, at MUSC Columbia due to respiratory failure. She received excellent care from both the ICU staff, Hospice of Lugoff and the entire staff of Karesh at Beachwood Long Term Care, where she had lived for the past eight months.
Born on September 28, 1944, in Statesboro, Ga., to Gordon and Llewellyn Pearson, Mary attended Bradwell Institute and later studied psychology at Georgia Southern University.
Mary spent many happy years on Hilton Head Island, where she loved the beaches. She was also passionate about plants and flowers, always filling her home and garden with vibrant greenery and colorful blooms.
In recent years, her greatest joy came from the companionship of her two dogs, Hobo (a Yorkie) and Blue (a Husky).
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Butler Whitfield; beloved son, Jason Cornell; and her three brothers, Bucky, Robert and Billy Pearson.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly; her grandsons, Trent and Mason; and her great-granddaughter, Anderson. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends whom she considered family.
The service will be held at Midway Methodist Church with Pastor Hank Perry officiating on July 24, 2024, at 2 p.m.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Burial will immediately follow at the church cemetery.
