Peter Fortier Obituary

Peter S Fortier

Concord, NH - Did you hear about Big Pete? Well, he died. Usually, he would be the one telling you about this, but since this is no longer an option, allow us to step in and tell you why we loved him so much, why he was such a great guy and why he has left a huge hole in our lives.

Peter was a very loyal and supportive husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He loved deeply and was always willing to offer his sage advice, even when you didn't want it. Big Pete was full of all kinds of stories, especially from the good ole' days, and all you had to do was sit down next to him and let him entertain you. He knew people from every crevice, was well-connected and always willing to lend a helping hand.

Peter shared his love of music and beautiful voice with those around him on many occasions. He grew up playing various sports and was a star athlete, coach, and mentor. In recent years, his ambitious pursuits evolved around getting home in time to watch Ellen, followed by the news, eventually falling asleep to the King of Queens.

In the end, Big Pete didn't have much hair, but as a trendy teenager, he donned long, curly hair which accessorized his bell bottom jeans and platform shoes. His incredible sense of style eventually evolved to wearing ironed Hawaiian shirts with novelty hats to match any occasion. In all, Big Pete was a unique and one-of-a-kind guy.

Peter wasn't ready for retirement and was still working, even after 48 years of service. He would be pleased to know his final resting place will be with military honors at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery.

Peter loved his family and was immensely proud of them. This includes Tammy, his bride of 27 years; his children (and spouses) Rebecca (Matt); Andrew (Krisha), Michael, Shea (Craig); his stepchildren Joshua (Ryan) and Marie. He was a special older brother to Timothy, Thomas (Duncan), Mary and Amy. And his legacy will live on through his grandchildren Tucker, Tristan, Reagan, Julian, Sofiya, Mackenzie, Declan, Cillian, Jonathan, Aaron, Abbi, Alexis, Timothy, and Ethen.

Please join his family and friends at a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Concord Country Club 22 Country Club Lane Concord, NH. A way to honor him is to consider donating on Peter's behalf to the New Hampshire Soccer Association (soccernh.com) and/or Veterans Count (vetscount.org).

The most important thing to know about Big Pete is that he was admired, respected, and well loved. We will miss seeing his V55 license plate at the Ninety-Nine, his warm, friendly smile, snarky remarks, and wicked sense of humor.

We are so sorry to hear of Pete's passing but trust that the bigger universe really needed him. We were neighbors when our children were young and lately, Pete was Dale's "Go To" man for veterans and their families who needed help.
Please accepts our sincere sense of loss with you,
Dale and Lori Warner

To the Fortier Family
So surprised and sad to here of Pete's passing. He was a good friend over our 50+ year acquaintance. Whether it be playing sports against each other in high school, in the military or at the Hopkinton Fair we always had good laughs and he would have your back. He was very proud of his children and spoke of them and Tammy often. We will all miss him deeply. Rest in peace, buddy.....

To Tammy and the Fortier family;
I was shocked to learn of Pete's passing. I had the pleasure of working closely with him for all of his military career, for many, just two doors down from his office. He was a font of knowledge in all things military, especially all things historically, and could produce documentation quickly to answer questions for grieving members of an old veteran seeking long-lost proof of their service. More important, he was a loyal supporter, and an even better friend. His vast knowledge will be difficult for others to match...and he always left me laughing...as he did just weeks ago when we last met. It is my hope that those fond memories that you have will comfort you in this time of sadness. To Pete..."carry on Sergeant' !

Thoughts are with Pete's family and friends . Whether he was trying to teach me how to play basketball or telling me a story he was always patient and honest. For instance I wasn't a very good basketball player but I learned alot about team work from Pete.

Way back in the day Peter, Tim and Tom were my first babysitting job. He sang at my wedding and I will never forget all the kindness that came from the Fortier family. My condolences to all.
