Robert Hyland Jewell

Concord, NH - Robert Hyland Jewell, 84, of Concord, passed away at Concord Hospital on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. Born on July 6, 1938 in Concord, he was the son of the late Richard G. and Mable (Hyland) Jewell.

Robert grew up in Concord and graduated from Concord High School in 1956. While in high school, he was a Member of the State Basketball Championship Team of 1956. He attended Franklin Pierce College and received a bachelor's degree in Managerial Accounting. Robert served his country for 21.5 years in the United States Air Force as a photo Interpreter until he retired in October 1977. Bob received numerous awards over the years, including the USAF Bronze Star, but he was most proud of the Meritorious Service Medal which he received for a 24-hour period of photo interpretation that resulted with the elimination of a large North Vietnamese ammunition storage site. His last assignment was in Washington, DC, working with the Secretary of the Air Force.

Bob loved salmon fishing on the Miramichi River in New Brunswick, Canada with his brother-in-law Alan Gray and Mason Butterfield. During his time in the Air Force, he played basketball and softball on base teams and umpired and coached Little League. Bob was a Lifetime member of the VFW.

He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn Elaine (Gray) Jewell; children Natalie Diane Jewell Duffy and her husband Michael, Brian George Jewell and his wife Sandra, Harvey Dallas Peter and his wife Janet, and Charles Douglas Peter; grandchildren April Duffy Rollins and her husband Jay, Melissa Duffy, Erik Duffy, Brooke Jewell, Brian M. Jewell, Charles Higdon, Benjamin Eldridge-Peter and Haleigh Peter; great-grandchildren Aurora Rollins, Ayden Rollins, Jameson Rollins, Caleb Goodwin, Summer Granger, Jonas Ingram, Parker Lucy, Gabriel Duffy, Hyland Jewell, William Jewell, Jameson Jewell and Emma Dickinson; sister-in-law Anita T. Jewell; brother-in-law Alan E. Gray; and many loving nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers Richard G. Jewell, Jr., James E. Jewell and his wife Beverly, and daughter Terry Lynne Higdon.

A visitation will be held from 10am to 12pm on Thursday, January 5 at Bennett Funeral Home located at 209 N. Main St, Concord with a Memorial Service to begin at 12pm. A burial will follow immediately at Blossom Hill Cemetery located at 207 N. State St, Concord.

I loved seeing a fellow G.I. being mentioned for his great service in Vietnam Spotting the NVA ammo dump - Terrific !!!
I w as with the 101st Abn (Rifle Company) dodging bullets in 1967 - 68. Speaking for U S. Fellow Combatants , Hyland was Greatly Appreciated. R.I.P. Bob*.

Although Marilyn and Bob are not family by blood, we are family by love. They have both been actively involved in my life since I moved to Badger Street in 1982 with my parents, Mike and Sue Russell. I am grateful for all the wonderful memories we shared and great talks we had as I grew up and then had a family of my own. They are two of the kindest and most giving people I know.

Bob - we will miss you so much and I pray that when I get to where you are are, I can hug your neck and hear you call me Jenny again. Love you tons!
