Newland Akin Obituary
Evansville, Ind.
Mr. Newland D. Akin, age 91, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Deaconess Hospital.
Mr. Akin was a 35 year employee of Evansville Sheet Metal before retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Parish and Sheet Metal Local #20 Retirees and a past member of the Eagles.
Newland enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling and playing cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Newland D. and Loraine (Fischer) Akin Sr.; brothers, William and Joseph Akin; his sister, Mildred Birdson; and his son-in-law, Sam Wolf II.
Newland is survived by his wife, Eloise (Helfrich) Akin; his daughter, Linda Wolf; his son, James Akin, of Connersville, IN.; his two sisters, Helen Wilson, of Florida, and Carolyn Schenk, of Evansville; along with his four grandchildren, Mallory and Bill Akin, Scott and Matthew Wolf. Also surviving are many special nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Parish with Rev. Brian Emmick officiating. Entombment to follow in St. Joseph Mausoleum.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W Franklin Street and 9:30 a.m. to service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Parish or to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
