Norman was a member of Freedom General Baptist Church in Boonville, Ind., where he served as an ordained deacon. He loved working in his garden, restoring tractors and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Norman retired from the Peabody Coal Company in 1986. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Peppiatt of Elberfeld, Ind., Martha "Snooks" Gore of Lynnville, Ind., and Carol A. Bass of Lynnville, Ind.; four sons, Ray Gore of Lynnville, Ind., Bobby Gore and his wife, Brenda, of Boonville, Ind., Billy Gore and his wife, Ella Grace, of Lynnville, Ind., and Tony Gore and his wife, Gail, of Lynnville, Ind.; one sister, Pauline Roedel of Boonville, Ind.; two brothers, Don Gore and Gerald Gore, both of Boonville, Ind.; twenty-two grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Billie Mae; one daughter, Linda Sue Owen; two grandchildren; three sisters; and five brothers.
The family would like to thank Norman's caretaker, Christina Skelton.
Services for Norman will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2008, from Bradley's Colonial Chapel in Boonville with burial in the Freedom Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Rev. Wayne Rowland will officiate.
