Mr. V. Paul Singleton

Longtime Spencer County farmer and community leader V. Paul Singleton passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at River Pointe Health Campus in Evansville, Ind. Paul was born in Washington, Ind., on August 27, 1926 to Lee and Fern (Wallace) Singleton.
The family moved to Evansville in 1940. Paul graduated from Evansville's Bosse High School in 1944 and Evansville College in 1950. He earned a bachelor's degree in business and was a member of Phi Zeta Fraternity.
He enlisted in the Navy in January 1944, and attended Signal School at University of Illinois. Paul served on transport ships crossing the North Atlantic during WWII. He was honorably discharged in April 1946, as a Signalman 2nd Class.
Paul married Virginia Mae Newman and moved to Rockport, Ind., in 1951 to pursue a career in farming, one of his life's passions. His love of farming and the community showed in his civic activities. Paul served the South Spencer Board of Education for several years and was actively involved in building the new high school in Reo.
He was also an active promoter of farming and community organizations, having served as a Director at the Huntingburg Production Credit Association, the Southwestern Indiana Farm Credit Association, the Spencer County Co-Op, the Spencer County 4-H Association and the Lincoln Land Development Corporation.
Paul was a long time member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rockport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Sally; and his bothers, Wallace, and his wife, Ruth, and James C. Singleton.
Paul is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Virginia Singleton; and two sons, Alan and Mrs. Jackie (Thomas) Singleton, of Floyds Knobs, Ind., and Scott and Mrs. Vicki Singleton, of Rockport. Paul has two grandsons, Lee Singleton, of Champaign, Ill., and Dr. Michael Singleton, of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Rockport with Rev. Adam Payne officiating. Burial is in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Rockport. The Rockport American Legion Post 254 will conduct military honors.
Visitation is 2 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport and from 10 until 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church.
The family sends heartfelt appreciation to the staff of River Pointe Healthcare for the wonderful care given and love shared over the past year. The family also requests that expressions of sympathy go to Hospice of Spencer County, the South Spencer Scholarship Fund, Spencer County 4-H Association or Trinity United Methodist Church.
