William Gibbs Obituary

William F. Gibbs, Sr., of Sapphire, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.
He was predeceased by his parents, G. Alva Gibbs, Sr. and Billie Gibbs, and a grandson Eli Russell Sleipness. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kaye McCurley Gibbs, daughter Amy Gibbs Sleipness (Ole) of Spokane, Washington, son William F. Gibbs, Jr. (Danielle) of Greenville, South Carolina, and as well as six grandchildren: Red, June, Floyd, Mack, Annabelle, and Luke.
Born in Gainesville, Florida, Bill graduated from Troy University in Alabama with a Bachelor's of Science in History and served in the US Army Reserves. He spent a career in business and finance. Prior to his illness, Bill was an avid sportsman and athlete and enjoyed running, golf, and hunting. A member of Cashiers United Methodist Church, Bill's faith was evident in the candor and wisdom he shared with family and friends. Most of all, he loved his family and took great pride in seeing them live life fully. He will be remembered for his strength and bravery in his long battle against multiple sclerosis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cashiers United Methodist Church or the MS Society.

Long time friend of Bill and Kaye, never been a person who faced his terrible hand dealt to him and made all efforts to live life to the fullest than Bill! And Kaye was there with him ever step of the way! God got a good one when Bill departed the world, I will always cherish our friendship!!
