Joan Southworth Obituary
April 12, 1935 - January 11, 2018Joan M. Southworth, of Milford, passed away peacefully in her sleep after a brief illness, surrounded by her family and friends on January 11, 2018.
Joan leaves her beloved daughter, Susan Southworth and son, James (wife, Robin and grandsons, Brett and Michael); her sister, Marie (nephew, David) and nieces, Julie (David) and Lori. She was predeceased by her son, Peter.
Joan was born and raised in the small town of Machias Maine she grew up on a 200+ acre farm with cattle and horses and other livestock as her and her sister's constant companions. Joan graduated from Westbrook Junior College, Portland Maine in 1957 with a Associate's degree. She made her home in CT for the past 55 years retiring from Handy & Harmon of Fairfield in 1998 as a senior buyer. She loved the ocean, her dogs Toby and Tango and her children and grandchildren.
She was a loving friend, mother and grandmother who was loved and will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation of time or money in the name of Joan to CT Hospice, Shelton, CT. The compassion, care and kindness provided by CT Hospice to Joan and her family was a source of strength and comfort during a very difficult time. Sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. She was a great lady and always kind to me as a kid constantly in your finished basement and playing with Pepper your dog. I was Peter's friend Scott C.You may remember me as Pancho!
