John Wunder, aged 82, passed away on July 15, 2016. John was born in Landsberied, Bavaria, Germany in 1933, where he apprenticed as a Butcher and Sausage Maker. He came to the United States in 1952 where he lived and worked in New York City. John served in the US Army for 2 years and then moved to Stratford, where he became a partner in Miller's Stratford Provision Company. John and his brother George Wunder eventually took over the historic business and supplied their famous frankfurters and sausages to restaurants and delis throughout the tri-state area. They manufactured authentic German, Polish and Hungarian sausages, cold cuts and specialty meats at their premises on Barnum Avenue in Stratford. John retired in 2002 after 45 years at Miller's.
John was a resident of Stratford for 42 years. He was a member of Mill River Country Club and attended St. Mark's Church. Following his retirement, John moved to Florida and then Georgia. John was an avid tennis fan, playing until he was in his seventies and regularly attending the Wimbledon Championships in England.
John is survived by his loving wife Manuela; his daughter Joanne Wunder of the United Kingdom and his son John Wunder of Nevada. He is also survived by his brother Albert Wunder; sisters Sophie Oberbacher and Hedwig Dachner of Germany and many nieces and nephews in Connecticut and Germany.
