William McMahon Obituary

MCMAHON William J. McMahon, age 77, beloved husband of Theresa Auger McMahon of Stratford, previously of Bridgeport, passed away on February 26, 2010 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. In addition to his devoted wife of 54 years, Bill will be remembered by his loving children, Debbie DelBuono, and her husband, Gary of Massachusetts, Brien McMahon, and his wife, Amy of New Jersey, Theresa Bardes, and her husband, Billy of Fairfield, Laurie Therrien, and her husband, Tony of North Carolina; nine cherished grandchildren, DJ, Nicky and Brett DelBuono, Colin, Connor and Mackenzie McMahon, Billy and Mikey McMahon, and Emily Therrien; his brothers, Robert McMahon and his wife, Betsey of Fairfield, Kevin McMahon, and his wife, Eileen of Orange; his special relative, Nancy McCain of Trumbull; and several nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents, William and Anna McDermott McMahon; sister, Maureen Halica; and his sister-in-law, Judy Kinsella. A graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar School, Fairfield Prep, Bentley College, and Suffolk University, Bill received his degree in accounting. Throughout his career, he worked as a cost accountant for AVCO Lycoming, a treasurer for Warnaco, Saab Scania of America, and City Trust Bank, as comptroller for the City of Bridgeport, and most recently was the Commissioner of Special Revenue for the State of Connecticut. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. As a volunteer, Bill was a past president for the Board of Apportionment and Taxation, and past vice president for United Cerebral Palsy Association of Southern Connecticut (UCPA). He was a member of the Gaelic American Club and honorary lifetime member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians-JFK Division. Bill enjoyed sailing on Long Island Sound and beyond, sharing a game of golf with his wife and friends, and competing on the field with other softball athletes. He loved his family, and was especially satisfied with the role as his grandchildren's number one fan during each of their school and sporting events. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road in Fairfield Center. His Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday at 1 p.m. directly in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Fairfield. All other services will be private.
