William "Bill" Lloyd Sunday, age 92, of Mechanicsburg, died on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Bill was born on Monday, November 10, 1924 in Mechanicsburg to the late Samuel T. Sunday and Anna (Lloyd) Sunday. Bill was the widower of Betty (Fasnacht) Sunday, who died on June 27, 2006. In addition to his parents and wife, Bill is preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Andrew Sunday.

Bill's survivors include his daughter, Dawn Sunday of Mechanicsburg and Ardmore; his two grandchildren: Noel Shadowen of Philadelphia, Nicholas "Nick" Shadowen of Miami, FL; his niece Bonnie Wurzbach of Corpus Christi, TX; his very best friend, Natalie "Nat" Blouch of Mechanicsburg; and his close family friends: Tierna Stockley of Mechanicsburg and Mitzi Chverchko of Carlisle.

Bill graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1942. He joined the United States Navy to fight in World War II after he began attending the University of Pennsylvania. Bill then graduated from Midshipmen's School at Cornell University in 1944. He reported aboard the USS McConnell DE 163 as an Antisubmarine Warfare Officer and served as Gunnery Officer until the Japanese surrender when he announced the surrender to all hands on deck. Upon his return to school, Bill graduated from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1948 with a bachelor of science in economics. In 1950, Bill then graduated from the Dickinson School of Law with his Juris Doctor degree (J.D.). He was then admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar Association in 1951 and began his practice of municipal and estate law on Main Street in Mechanicsburg.

Bill was a member of the Cumberland County Board of View in 1958, the Mechanicsburg Area School Board from 1961-1973, where he served as president from 1964-1965 and 1970-1972. He was also a member of the Cumberland County Bar Association, where he served as president in 1977 and of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Bill served as a solicitor for Silver Spring Township from 1959-1962, Monroe Township from 1960-1962, Upper Allen Township from 1968-1975, the Upper Allen Township Authority from 1969-1977 and the Borough of Mechanicsburg for over 40 years from 1962-2003. He retired from practicing law in 2015 at the age of 90, after almost 65 years of serving his community in Mechanicsburg. Bill was a lifelong member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity at the University of Pennsylvania, the Nittany Lion Club, American Legion Post #109, Eureka Masonic Lodge #302 F&AM, Mechanicsburg Club, and West Shore Elks.

Bill was a big Penn State fan and he loved watching the Nittany Lions play football. He also enjoyed golfing in his free time. Bill was very proud of his family, especially his grandchildren and their achievements. Bill's life exemplified personal and professional integrity as well as dedication and service to his country, family and community. Bill is going to be missed by his family and the countless number of friends that made him so well known in Mechanicsburg.

All are welcome to join Bill's family at his viewing on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Myers-Buhrig Funeral Home and Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 and on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. for his service at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, 117 West Keller Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Randall J. Marburger officiating. Burial will follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsburg, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. Bill's family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Snapper's Bar & Grill, 120 East Allen Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, following the burial.
