Robert Laird Obituary

Robert E. "Bob" Laird, 75, of Concord Avenue, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at Carlsbad Medical Center.
Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Friday, November 21, 2014 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 22, 2014, 10:00 AM, at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby W. Fuller officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Robert E. "Bob" Laird was born on January 13, 1939 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Forrest Brack and Helen Oleta (McCollough) Laird. He moved to Carlsbad as a young boy and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1956. Bob served his country in the US Air Force from 1956 to 1960. He married his high school sweetheart, Doris Janice Brasher on February 1, 1959 in Carlsbad. Bob studied to be an electrician and
received his Journeyman License and Contractors License while working various jobs. He went to work for Carlsbad Electric in 1968 where he worked until it closed. Bob then worked for the City of Carlsbad as an Electrical Department Foreman until he retired in 1999. He was a member of IBEW and taught the electrical apprentice classes over 16 years. Bob was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for almost 60 years where he served as Sunday School bus driver in student ministries and as a deacon. He served on the Boy Scouts Executive Board. Bob had a love for all sports and never missed the opportunity to watch his children and grandchildren play sports. He ran the chain gang for the Cavemen football games for 43 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Forrest Laird; mother, Oleta Shafer; stepfather, J. H. Shafer and son, Mark Laird.
Survivors are his wife, Janice Laird of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Toni Foreman of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Whitney Warminski and husband, Patrick of Amarillo, TX, Amanda Laird of Hobbs, NM, Jacob Laird of Big Spring, TX, Seth Tanner of Carlsbad, NM and daughter-in-law, Renee Laird of Carlsbad, NM. Pallbearers will be Jacob Laird, Seth Tanner, Patrick Warminski, Steve Ross, Tim Ross and Corey Ross.
Honorary pallbearers are Steve Laird, Larry Lynch, Connie Day and Deacon's of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Mexico Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 629, Portales, NM 88130.
