Martin M. Ford

Born: March 3, 1927

Died: Sept. 23, 2015

Martin Marvin Ford, died at St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson, Arizona on September 23, 2015, enveloped by his loving family. He suffered a massive stroke.

A memorial service with Military Honors will be held Saturday, September 26, at 9:30 a.m. at the Southern AZ Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista, Arizona.

Marty was born on March 3, 1927, to Erick and Anna (Stueland) Ford in DeKalb, Illinois. Education was an important part of his life. Marty graduated from St. Olaf College and Luther Theological Seminary. In addition, he received an STM from Yale University and an MS from Long Island University in New York. Marty's chosen vocation was serving as a Lutheran clergyman. He served parishes for 26 years and was an Army chaplain for 32 years. He was a WWII veteran and later served two tours in Vietnam. He retired as a Lt. Colonel. Marty cared deeply about his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, to whom he was married for 67 wonderful years; his sister, Bernice Moore, Florida; 6 children, Martha Le Drew (Tim), Canada; David Magnuson-Ford (Heidi), Canada; Becky Kopp (Tim), Washington; Jordan Ford (Kathy), Minnesota; Marybeth Barrett (Don), Utah; Betsy Retterer (Jeff), Washington; 18 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Erick J. and Anna Ford; his brother, Einar, and 2 infant siblings.

Marty enjoyed bowling, fishing, RV'ing and spending time with family and friends. He lived life with vigor and we will miss him more than words can say.

I served with him with the 108th arty gp at Dong Ha. He a lot of fun to be around and really did a fantastic job as chaplain.
