Richard K. Wickness, 69, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at his home in DeKalb.
Born January 15, 1947 in DeKalb, the son of Raymond and Phyllis (Gonterman) Wickness , Richard married Cynthia Meisch on November 7, 1976.
He was a graduate of Rochelle High School Class of 1965, and graduated from Arizona State University where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. Richard was a veteran of the United States Army. Richard and Cynthia were the former owners of Gonterman Jewelers in DeKalb. He was later employed as a realtor for Century 21 Elsner Realty and Herff - Jones until his retirement. Richard was a member of the Dekalb Elks Lodge 765 for 42 years.
He is survived by his wife Cynthia; son Adam (Brigid) Wickness, Sycamore; daughters Emily (Dan) Weller, DeKalb, and Kate (David) Robinson, Sycamore; grandchildren Conor, Aislinn, Parker, Olivia, and baby Wickness due in October; sister Barbara (Don) Ekstrand, Scottsdale, Arizona; brother David (Barbara) Wickness , Dunlap; two aunts; one uncle; several nieces, nephews, and cousins that were like siblings.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016, at Calvary Lutheran Church rural Lee, with the Rev. Craig Nelson officiating, with full military honors by DeKalb American Legion, Am Vets and VFW Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday , June 9, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb.
Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at Union Cemetery in Stewart.

Cindy, I'm so sad for your loss. I remember thinking how perfect you two were for each other and how nervous you both were about that first blind date. It seems like just yesterday. Dick was such a great guy and will be missed by everyone. Im sure your beautiful children will help you through this. I love you and miss you all.

Cindy & Family, I am so sad to hear of Dick's death. How I remember his first day at Gonterman's when I first met him. He had a warmth & charm that took us all in!! How fun to watch him meet you, fall in love and get married and watch you grow your family. What a great team you two made! I believe that God blessed both of you with each other, and certainly blessed your children with great parents! I pray that God will warm all of your hearts with memories of Dick's life, and that God will bring peace to all of you in the days ahead.

Of all the cousins and their spouses, I always found Dick to be among the friendliest and most sociable. When he asked you how it was going, you knew that he was sincerely interested in hearing your answer. He was definitely a people person. And boy did he know how to brighten up a conversation! He will be greatly missed. Blessings to Cindy and the children and all of Dick's family.

Words are difficult at this time. Losing Dick is like a light that has been extinguished. He always had a funny anecdote to share, a smile to offer and a heart of gold. I have many fond memories of our next door neighbor life with all of you. From the get-go we we all clicked and forged a friendship that has lasted a long time. I MISS THOSE DAYS! I was so sorry to hear of Dick's passing. He was such a great guy. Dick and I go way back to when he was at Gonterman's and I was at Jolly's He was so nice to my wife Francine at Kate and my nephew David's wedding in October. Dick could light up a room with his smile and personality. He treated you like you were the most important person in the room. He will be missed by myself, Francine, and many others.

Dear Cindy, I was at a loss for words for you upon hearing of Dicks passing until I read Emily's message to her dad. It then came to me that Dick made everyone feel like he was their best friend.
